There was a lovely celebration for our school community this week as we marked 'Foundation Stones' Day 2024 at Greystones Community College. Foundation Stones day this year celebrates the school's 5th birthday! This date marks the awarding of patronage for the new school for Greystones to Kildare and Wicklow Education and Training Board which led the establishment of GCC.
We came together as a school to celebrate the journey we have been on in realising our mission statement of creating a dynamic and vibrant learning community where we nurture respect in our relationships, excellence in our endeavours and pride in our achievements. We also acknowledged the core values of an ETB community College; Care, Equality, Community, Respect, Excellence in Education.
Our students had the opportunity to write the next chapter in their story, having started school here with a blank page, they are adding a new chapter each year in writing their stories of success at school.
The event was filled with amazing student and staff musical performances throughout. The school community was treated to performances of ‘Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas’ from our 5th Year student Ellie Walsh, Fleetwood Mac's Landslide performed by 3rd Year student Maddison Moran and Abba's 'Slipping through my fingers' performed by 5th year student Beth Gilbert.
Other highlights included two staff and student collaborations featuring Mr. Bolger and our school trad group followed by Ms. Jones and 2nd year student Tome Malone performing a Violin Duet. Foundation stones day also heard the individual stories from each of the year groups delivered by Jenna Rice, Morgan Durston, Jack Deegan, Lydia Halpin Rooney, Emily Carroll and Tom Malone.
There was also an engaging fireside chat between Head Students Na Galláin Naomi Wall and Callum Halpin Rooney in conversation with 1st year Student Leadership Team representatives AJ Toole and Emma Odongo.
We were delighted to be joined for this occasion by Cllr Louise Fenelon Gaskin, Chairperson of the Board of Management, Ms. Lucy Pappas Chairperson of the Parent Leadership Team and Dr. Deirdre Keyes, Chief Executive of Kildare and Wicklow Education and Training Board.
Special thanks to our ethos ambassadors who worked on the celebration with ethos leads Ms. Murphy and Ms. Byrne with support from Ms. Lynch.
