Parent Leadership Team Update

An update from the PLT Chairperson Mr. Noel Hennessy (December 2020)
12-February-21

Dear fellow parents,

I wanted to take this opportunity to give you an update on the work the Parent Leadership Team are doing on behalf of the school. As mentioned in our previous update, our number one target is to ensure the school has a new temporary home for the new school year in August 2021. To ensure we achieve this goal we have been working in the background and meeting with our local TD's Minister Simon Harris, Minister Stephen Donnelly and TD's Jennifer Whitmore, John Brady, Stephen Matthews. Since our last update we have held 2 online meetings with the TD's and the PLT and have made our views very clear on our expectations for the short and medium-term future. We are confident that we are edging towards a successful conclusion to our accommodation issue currently faced by the school. We know for sure that the Tennis Club has generously agreed to extend our stay in their facility and that the children will continue for their first school year in one building.

Our next key objective is to ensure that GCC has a fit for purpose facility to start the new school year in August 2021, that can not only accommodate the current students but welcome more students into the GCC family. The Department of Education is working with the TD's and the KWETB to identify and agree on an alternative site that plays as a temporary home for the school while we wait for the new school building to be agreed and built. This site will be selected and agreed in the coming months but rest assured that we are applying significant pressure on the Dept of Education to get this action agreed and resolved so Mr. Farrell can start to plan for 2021.

In conjunction with this we are also requesting an immediate update from the Dept of Education in relation to the permanent site and building of the new school. This is our real aim and something that we can't wait to start working on with Mr. Farrell and the KWETB.

We hope to be able to share some more detailed information with you all in the New Year and hopefully have some of our objectives completed. Until then, everyone on the Parent Leadership Team wishes you all a very Happy and Peaceful Christmas and a Prosperous New Year. I think we all need this after 2020!

Kind Regards

Noel Hennessy
