1st Year Parent Teacher Student Meetings

On Thursday 12th January, Greystones Community College completed the Parent Student Teacher meetings for all years with PTSMs taking place in the school for 1st Years and their parents. It was great to see many of 1st years with actions for improvements filled in on their reflection logs leaving the building with proud parents and guardians beside them. All students now begin 2023 with actionable goals for the remainder of the school year, which they will be fully supported in achieving.

Greystones schools join forces for Christmas Concert 2022

Greystones Community was delighted to join with our neighbours and friends from St David’s Holy Faith Secondary School and Templecarrig School Greystones for a combined Christmas concert prior to the holidays. The large crowd were treated to a host of performances from the choirs from each of the three schools with all students coming together in partnership for the finale. The highlight of the night for us was the GCC choir performance of our school song 'Si Si na Moja' led by Ms. Jones and supported by Ms. O'Donovan on piano. The words of the song really resonated on what was a lovely night of collaboration between the three schools. "Now we stand here together, and lift our hearts in song to the rhythm of this moment in our lives. We are one world, one people, and we all breathe the same”

Foundation Stones Day at GCC

On Monday 19th December 2022, Greystones Community College held its first-ever Foundation Stones Day celebration. The occasion marked the day on which the KWETB was awarded the patronage for a new school for the Community, and Greystones Community College was born three years ago. Foundation Stones Day is an opportunity for us to come together as a whole-school community, to clarify our vision and to remind ourselves of the foundation stones that underpin everything we do here at GCC. It is an exciting chance to celebrate and share how far we’ve come and where our journey will take us next. All the activities of the day represented our foundation stones of Respect, Excellence and Pride and the core values of KWETB. The day began with a whole school assembly which consisted of ‘fireside chats’ with Mr Farrell, Ms Wray, Mr O Suilleabhain and Ms Harrison (as the first members of staff in the school). These fireside chats were hosted by Ms Carroll and Laila Boufarrse of 1st Year. We were also treated to singing and musical performances by the school choir and music students. We heard to wonderful solos from William Cash, Ellie Walsh and Cahal Jayawardene. We also had a panel discussion involving 3 of the first student enrolled in GCC back in 2020 (Callum Halpin Rooney, Jenna Rise and Yasmine Judge). This was followed by all members of the school community illustrating on a building block the words they associate with Greystones Community College and symbolising that everyone is building the vision of our new and developing school. The final part of our celebration involved us writing our first chapters in our GCC story notebooks, which have been locked until December 2023 when the next chapters will be written. We are all writing our exciting stories on a blank canvas!

Greystones Community College are very proud of entrants in the National Final of the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition in the RDS this week. Best wishes to Jack, Oisin and Jack who represent Greystones Community College with their entry in the chemical, practical and mathematical section exploring the behaviour of alpha particles. The outcome of the competition will be announced at the end of the three-day exhibition but Jack, Jack and Oisín's work over the past in preparation for the event has been commendable.
