Greystones Community College School Reopening 2022

Greystones Community College was in the fortunate position to be able to fully re-open for all students on Thursday January 6th 2022. There were a very small number of students and staff who could not attend school in-person but students who were isolating were able to join their classes live from home and, as a result, teaching and learning continued across all classes.

Parent Teacher Student Meetings

January is the month for our 1st year parent teacher student meetings. The first round of meetings were successfully held - virtually - on Thursday 13th January using Google Meet. Parents were given the opportunity to have short face-to-face meetings with all of their child’s core teachers and formative feedback was provided with goals also set for future improvement. The teaching staff look forward to collaborating with the parent body at the next round of individual meetings on January 20th for 1 Hamilton and 1 Milner classes.

Greystones Community College School Choir

Well done to the Greystones Community College Choir who performed a short concert safely outdoors for parents, students and staff, marking the start of the Christmas holidays on December 22nd . It was a joy to hear lovely student voices across the grounds of the College. A special mention also to the to the Chamber Choir who performed on the day. The concert was a wonderful way to kickstart the holiday period. Special thanks to Ms Aoife Jones, Music teacher and head of the choir, for all her hard work and preparation in advance of the performance.

December Buncloch Award 1st Year Winners

This week, the school were happy to have been able to mark the December Bunchloch Award 1st Year Winners' success at a special outdoor assembly. Congratulations to Katie Farrell, Ronan McGuigan, Mia Courtney and Matthew Ryan, who demonstrated commitment to their own academic success and to the school community during the month of December. The Bunchloch assembly is always a highly-anticipated school event, and it is uplifting to watch the students so willingly celebrate their friends' successes. Well done to the winners and to those who champion them.

Greystones Community College Maths Support Centre

Greystones Community College, under the leadership of Ms Rebecca Wray, are proud to have launched the Maths Support Centre. The Support Centre is open every Wednesday after school from 1pm to 1:30pm. The premise of the initiative is to offer support to students with homework or assignments and equally to challenge those with an interest in problem-solving and critical thinking by entering upcoming maths-centred competitions. This is as a drop in-centre and attendance is optional. The Centre is open to both year groups and the focus of support is student-led, thus creating an opportunity for our students to take the lead on their own progression in learning.

Greystones Community College Expands its Extra-Curricular Offering

Whilst continuing to observe all covid precautions, Greystones Community College is fortunate to have been able to expand its extra-curricular offering, with the introduction of CAD Club. Led by Mr Daniel Milner and open to all students, CAD Club allows club members to delve into the exciting world of computer-aided design after school on Wednesday afternoons. We look forward to seeing the innovative projects which will undoubtedly flow from the club very soon.
