The Greystones Community College student leadership team were delighted to attend the Wicklow Comhairle na nÓg for a very successful youth summit today. The student leadership team represented the whole student body at GCC at this event, where the focus was on facilitating dynamic and creative engagement among students by giving them opportunities to share their views on the biggest issues for them. Thanks to Jennifer Whitmore TD for spending time with the SLT and engaging with them on the topics that she is working on as well as discussing things that are important to young people. Thanks also to Wicklow Comhairle na nÓg for giving our students the opportunity to be involved in the development of local services and policies.

Greystones Community College are very proud to announce that its three National finalists Pola Kedziora, Ena Dowling and Morgan Durston performed outstandingly in IMRAM Glór na hÉigse Poetry Aloud Competition in Smock Alley theatre this week. All three students got highly commended and we are celebrating the achievement of 2nd year student Pola Kedziora who was awarded National runner up in the junior category out of 45 students from around Ireland who qualified for the final. Furthermore, Roan Morris also scooped the runner up award in the National Haiku Competition (Duais Bashō). The National final was judged by acclaimed Irish poet students Gabriel Rosenstock who presented our students with their awards and their rises. It was fantastic to have Greystones Community College recognised on the National stage! Following the success of Greystones Community College student Naomi Wall in last year's Trocaire National Poetry competition, this is another huge achievement for our students, highlighting their strengths in the creative arts. Thanks to Ms Hamilton and Mr O’Súilleabháin who worked with and supported the students.

National College Awareness Week at Greystones Community College

As part of National College Awareness Week, this week at Greystones Community College, students and staff engaged in activities to encourage conversations about future education possibilities. A " Drop everything and talk about College" session ran during classes on Thursday, where staff shared their positive experiences in College with their class. Topics such as courses on offer, college locations, CAO applications, highlights of the experience and further study dominated the session and offered students a fantastic opportunity to hear first-hand accounts of their teachers college experiences. A follow-on session; "Drop everything and talk about your dream job" invited students to consider their dream job and more importantly how to get there. Students brainstormed ideas around their dream job and then researched the college courses on offer, including entry requirements, to enable them to achieve it. Well done to all involved - the initiative provided a unique opportunity to highlight the importance of dreaming big and working hard to achieve your future goals!
