Greystones Community College Open Evening 2023
Greystones Community College proudly opened it doors last Thursday to welcome over 500 families from the local community to explore the excellent facilities and meet the school’s enthusiastic students. It is the time of year when parents start applying for school places in 1st year and there was huge interest in the annual open evening this year. 6th class students and their parents got the opportunity to visit each classroom and practical room and to explore all the subjects that are on offer. There were lots of activities on the night, such as Science experiments, wood carving in woodwork, 3D printing in Technology and lino cutting and printing in Visual Art. With many activities and exercises across all rooms, open evening presents a fantastic opportunity to immerse yourself in a post primary school in preparation for the transition.
Principal Ruairi Farrell was very proud of being able to welcome primary school pupils to ‘our fantastic school’. ‘Our enthusiastic student ambassadors and demonstrators really engaged with the younger pupils while our dynamic staff are on hand to answer any parental questions and to explain the admissions process’. Greystones Community College provides multidenominational education inspired by the core values of excellence in education, care, equality, community and respect.
Board of Management Chairperson, Cllr. Lourda Scott remarked “Every classroom in Greystones Community College was full of enthusiastic demonstrations for visiting parents and potential students to try. I spoke to many of the GCC staff and students who were on hand to help and their pride in their school was very evident as they spoke about the many activities on offer. It was a pleasure to attend and meet so many young people representing their school and community so well” commented Cllr Scott.
