Greystones Community College’s Ethan Bramhill secures National Silver Medal in All Ireland Schools Cross Country Championships

First Year Greystones Community College student Ethan Bramhill has secured an All Ireland Medal with an amazing 2nd place finish in the National Schools Country Championships held in Tymon Park n Dublin on Saturday. This is the culmination of a years hard work having won the Leinster title earlier this year.

Ethan certainly didn’t have it all his own way in the highly competitive Minor Boys 2,500m race. With a very tough start, he found himself well down the field on the straight start but cleverly worked his way through the pack and was in 5th position with 500 metres to go. Ethan gave it absolutely everything to pass 4 more athletes to secure the silver medal.

Greystones Community College are incredibly proud of this outstanding achievement. Deputy Principal Ms Lynch and Year Head Ms Devlin were there to witness history being made and watched Ethan run a tactically astute and mature race against the very best in the country to claim the silver medal, narrowly losing out on the National title to Daragh Whelan from Castletroy College in Limerick. Ethan has further consolidated his position as the best athlete in Leinster in his age group following on from his Leinster Schools title earlier this year.

This National medal tops off a very successful year for Greystones Community College Athletics with many athletes qualifying for the Leinster championship finals following success at the East Leinster Championships.

Speaking from the finish line today after Ethan’s national success, Greystones Community College Deputy Principal and Athletics Coach Ms Maria Lynch was overjoyed at Ethan’s achievement. “It is not only a very special day for the College but for Ethan, his family and his friends and supporters in Greystones AC. “He is a very talented athlete with an exciting future ahead of him. We are all very proud today.”
