14-year-old Freyja Ryan Dockrell, a 3rd year student at Greystones Community College has yet again claimed a top prize in this years Texaco Children's Art Competition which is in its 70th year.

Freyja’s award-winning artwork entitled ‘Tired’ is a self-portrait. Freyja captured the moment when she was involved in a sports tournament and accidentally received a knock to the head. Her artwork depicts her lacking energy, drinking a capri sun with an ice pack wrapped in a yellow scarf on her head.

Freyja is no stranger to success in the Texaco Competition, winning one of the big awards also at last years competition. Commenting on Freyja’s success, art teacher Ms. Joan Morton remarked on her natural talent. “From the beginning of 1st year, Freyja has been a talented and inspired art student and never afraid to try new things. We are really proud of these achievements on the National Stage”.

The Texaco Children’s Art Competition is popularly regarded as the longest-running sponsorship in the history of arts sponsoring in Ireland, with an unbroken history that dates back to the very first Competition held in 1955. There were 5 winners from throughout County Wicklow.

Final Adjudicator Gary Granville, Professor Emeritus of Education at the National College of Art and Design, said the winning artworks “demonstrated high levels of skill and imagination”.

This year, as has been the case throughout its life, it has been a platform on which young artists from Wicklow and counties throughout Ireland have had their talents recognised and their creativity commended.
