Parent Teacher Student Meetings
On Thursday 18th November, Greystones Community College hosted the first night of virtual Parent Student Teacher meetings for 2nd Year Students. With meetings scheduled over 2 evenings, time is afforded to students and families to meet with all teachers. While the preference had been for in-person meetings, the safety and wellbeing of our students, their families and our teachers remains a priority. However, the online format, which proved successful last year, was adopted successfully again. The evening was supported by a technology Helpdesk, to support guardians and students with any connection issues. The second half of the 2nd Year group will have their Parent Student Teacher meetings next Thursday 25th November and teachers look forward to engaging with those students and guardians on the evening.
Greystones Community College Hiking Club
The Greystones Community College Hiking Club continues to see great participation. Following the success of earlier hikes in and near the local community, the most recent outing took the group to the coast, with a hike along the shoreline of Greystones. With more than 20 students in attendance, the activity was well-enjoyed and the group look forward to planning more hikes in the coming weeks. Thanks to Mr Byrne and Ms Byrne, would led the club, keeping enthusiasm levels high and, of course, keeping everyone safe along the way.
Science Week at Greystones Community College
To mark Science Week 2021, Greystones Community College students were recently challenged, through a series of enquiry-based learning activities, to deepen their scientific knowledge and further ignite their interest in the subject. Students worked together in teams to engineer the tallest freestanding tower that could support a specified weight. Congratulations to Emily Carricks, Roan Morris and Ansh Bisht who achieved a height of 87cm. Students also worked to build prototype boats, adding marbles to point of sinking, thus investigating the relationship between mass and volume. Well done to all the students involve in Science Week 2021.
North Wicklow Supergames Tournament
Well done to the Greystones Community College boys and girls Gaelic Football teams, who took part in the North Wicklow Supergames Tournament last week. The tournament, organised by Éire Óg Greystones GAA Club and Wicklow GAA, accommodated 100 junior-cycle students from Greystones Community College, St David Secondary School, Coláiste Ráithín, Temple Carrig School and Coláiste Chraobh Abhann. Matches were organised and refereed by willing Transition Year students from the associated schools.
Trasna na dTonnta at Greystones Library
The students of Greystones Community College invite members of the community to visit Greystones Library, where their artwork is now on display. The works are sea-inspired surface paintings, created by 2nd Year students, as part of the Trasna na dTonnta Creative Schools Project. A big thank you to Greystones Library for affording the students this opportunity.
