What does a Student Ambassador do?
The position of student ambassador is a very privileged position to hold in the college. The students who are successful second year students have been appointed to act as role models and mentors for the new first year students and to support and asisst them in settling into school life at Greystones Community College.
Below is a sample list of roles that the student ambassadors fulfil:
- Present to incoming parents and students at the parent/student information evening.
- Attend the induction day for first year students in August before the start of the new academic year
- Support the incoming first year students with their entrance assessment.
- Familiarise students with classrooms, timetables, lockers, etc.
- Provide a ‘friendly face’ and someone to talk to if a student is having a difficulty
- Assist the students every morning by directing them to classes and supporting them with the organisation of their lockers
- Check in with students at morning break informally to see how they are settling in
- Encourage students to get involved in extracurricular activities
- Organise a class activity with the tutor for the class each term
- Inform students of upcoming events – remind students about Parent-Teacher meetings and Information Nights
- Organise inter-class quizzes, debates and indoor sports leagues
- Accompany the students on their bonding and wellness trips during the first term.
